About the Authors
Thomas Mesaglio is a PhD candidate at UNSW Sydney, and an avid beachcomber, botanist and naturalist. He is a site administrator on iNaturalist Australia and works for the CSIRO's Atlas of Living Australia. Thomas' favourite fish found in Sydney Harbour is the Greynurse Shark (Carcharias taurus).
John Sear is an underwater photographer with a specific passion for fishes and corals found in and around Sydney. He is also a regular contributor to and co-curator of the Australasian Fishes Project on iNaturalist. Dr Joseph DiBattista was NSW Senior Research Scientist and Curator in the Ichthyology Section at the Australian Museum from 2018-2023. He is co-founder of the Sydney Harbour Marine Education and Research events. Joey's favourite fish found in Sydney Harbour is the Southern Pygmy Leatherjacket (Brachaluteres jacksonianus).
Mark McGrouther was the Ichthyology Collection Manager at the Australian Museum for 37 years. He is now an Australian Museum Senior Fellow and founder of the Australasian Fishes Project on iNaturalist. Mark's favourite fish found in Sydney Harbour is the Old Wife (Enoplosus armatus).
Yi-Kai Tea is a systematic ichthyologist and the Curator of Fishes at the Australian Museum. He received his PhD from the University of Sydney in 2022 and has named over two dozen fish species as new to science. Kai's favourite fish found in Sydney Harbour is the Comb Wrasse (Coris picta).
Amanda Hay has over 25 years of experience in ichthyological collections and research and is the Ichthyology Collection manager at the Australian Museum. She has spent 20 years researching taxonomy and ecology, especially for larval fishes. Amanda's favourite fish found in Sydney Harbour is the Eastern Cleaner Clingfish (Cochleoceps orientalis).
Harry Rosenthal's lifelong passion for diving, citizen science and underwater photography became fulltime after retiring as the General Manager of Risk Management Services for Unimutual and Director of Risk at UNSW. Harry's favourite fish found in Sydney Harbour is the Common Seadragon (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus).
Erik Schlögl is a Professor in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at UTS, specialising in Mathematical Finance, with an emerging interest in using citizen science data for marine science. In his spare time, he can often be found underwater, photographing fishes. Erik’s favourite fish found in Sydney Harbour is the Redspotted Shrimpgoby (Amblyeleotris ogasawarensis).
